Test Overview
Real-Time PCR Test for HIV
HIV is an international public health crisis, with approximately 39 million people living with the virus as of 2022. Left untreated, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) progresses to a more advanced disease, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
There is no cure for HIV, but with early detection and management of the infection, people living with it can have a positive prognosis and go on to lead healthy lives. Alongside treatment with antiretroviral therapy (ART), testing for HIV is crucial to managing the progression of the disease.
About the Assay
Our HIV Qualitative assay detects HIV RNA in serum samples, together with an internal control.
- 100% specificity: in every case where the specimens tested did not contain the HIV target sequence, the result was negative
- Does not detect HIV RNA below 20 IU/ml, from 1 ml of extracted serum
- Dynamic range of 20 IU/ml to 108 IU/ml HIV RNA
Why Testing Matters
- Left untreated, HIV can progress to AIDS
- There is no cure, but early detection and management allow a positive prognosis
- Testing alongside antiretroviral therapy (ART) is crucial to managing the disease
