About Epstein-Barr Virus

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also called human herpesvirus 4, is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever), an acute but self-limiting illness of children and young adults. It occurs worldwide, and most people are infected at some point in their lives.

EBV is also associated with some cancers, including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and HIV-associated central nervous system lymphoma.
