Overview
What Is an Avuncular Test?
An avuncular DNA test determines whether a biological relationship exists between a child and an alleged aunt or uncle. It is typically used when the alleged father is unavailable but his sibling can be tested as a biological proxy.
- When the father is deceased or unavailable
His sibling (brother or sister) can be tested to help establish a biological link. - Results are probabilistic
The analysis produces a kinship index. The higher the value, the stronger the evidence of relationship. - Mother’s participation improves accuracy
Including the child’s mother allows the lab to isolate the paternal contribution. - Turnaround: 3–5 working days
Available in personal or legal format.
