Overview
Breast Recurrence Score Test
Oncotype DX is the only test proven to predict the likelihood of chemotherapy benefit. It provides a Recurrence Score® result, which assesses the expression of 21 genes (16 cancer-related genes and 5 reference genes) in a tumor sample using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
Just as every patient is different, so is every tumor. The Breast Recurrence Score test uses genomics to give you and your doctor important risk information about how your individual tumor will likely behave, including the magnitude of chemotherapy benefit and the risk of distant recurrence with endocrine therapy alone.
Is It Right for You?
You may be a candidate for the Breast Recurrence Score test if:
- You’ve been recently diagnosed with invasive breast cancer
- Your cancer is stage I, II, or IIIA
- Your breast cancer is hormone receptor-positive (HR+) and HER2-negative (HER2-)
What the Result Tells You
- How likely you are to benefit from chemotherapy
- How likely your tumor is to spread
- The risk of your cancer recurring
- How likely your tumor is to benefit from hormone therapy alone
- A quantitative estrogen receptor (ER) score, with supporting progesterone receptor (PR) and HER2 scores
