Ureaplasma Plus Panel

Real-time PCR panel that detects and differentiates Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum and Mycoplasma hominis.

Ureaplasma Plus

The Ureaplasma Plus test is an in vitro real-time PCR test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid in vaginal, urethral and urine samples, as an aid to the evaluation of infections. It is a multiplex panel that detects and tells apart Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum and Mycoplasma hominis, a related organism.

Telling the species apart matters because U. urealyticum is the more pathogenic species in conditions such as male urethritis.

Tests in This Panel

  • Ureaplasma urealyticum
  • Ureaplasma parvum
  • Mycoplasma hominis

How the Test Works

The nucleic acid of each pathogen is copied by specific primers using PCR (polymerase chain reaction), in two main processes:

  • DNA is isolated from your specimen
  • It is amplified by real-time PCR, and a real-time thermocycler detects the increase in fluorescence from probes specific to each pathogen
  • An internal control runs with every specimen to confirm amplification and to flag possible reaction inhibition

Sample, Turnaround & Price

Sample types: cervical or urethral swabs collected in a Copan culture swab device (insert the head of the swab into the transport media), or urine (a minimum of 10 ml in a sterile specimen cup).

Results in 3–5 business days from when the sample reaches our laboratory.

Price: J$9,600.
