About Trichomonas Vaginalis

Trichomoniasis (“trich”) is caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis and is considered the most common curable STD. It spreads during sex, usually infecting the lower genital tract in women and the urethra in men.

Only about 30% of infected people develop symptoms, but anyone infected can pass it on. Trichomoniasis also causes genital inflammation that makes it easier to get or spread HIV.

What to Watch For

  • Yellow-green or grey vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal odour, itching or irritation
  • Discomfort during sex or when urinating
  • Irritation inside the penis
  • Mild whitish discharge or burning after urination or ejaculation (men)

How CARIGEN Tests

  • QUAD Panel — panel of 4 STIs
  • STI-9* — panel of 9 STIs
  • STI-11+ — panel of 11 STIs

*The STI-9 test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Caribbean Genetics. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration or local regulations.
