Fungal
About Candida
Candida albicans is a yeast and the most common cause of genital yeast infections and of fungal urinary tract infections. Normally lactobacilli keep Candida in check; when that balance is disrupted, Candida can overgrow.
Risk factors include a recent course of antibiotics, a urinary catheter, diabetes and a weakened immune system. It can also be passed on through some sexual activity, particularly oral–genital contact.
